Mediation is a Great Tool for an Amicable Divorce

Mediation is a Great Tool for an Amicable Divorce

Divorces that are resolved in the courtroom can be time-consuming, expensive, emotionally exhausting, and unpredictable. If you and your spouse are looking for an amicable, efficient, and cost-effective way to end your marriage, mediation may be a good option.

Mediation allows you and your soon-to-be-ex the opportunity to decide the terms of your divorce rather than leaving it up to a judge. During mediation, a neutral third party (the mediator) will help facilitate the resolution of parties’ disputes through meaningful and productive discussion between both spouses.

While every couple’s situation is different, you can typically expect divorce mediation to tackle the following topics:

  • Division of personal property (household items)

  • Distribution of property (financial assets, physical assets, debts, retirement, etc.)

  • Child placement

  • Child custody & support

  • Spousal Support/Maintenance

Mediation helps parties identify their mutual interests and reach an agreement that benefits everyone involved.

If both parties come to a full agreement through mediation, they will still need to have a pre-trial and final hearing in Wisconsin to get their divorce finalized, and they will be expected to appear in person. The hearings, however, are considerably shorter, easier, and more affordable for everyone involved.

Here at Silver Divorce Wisconsin, Attorney Andrea Gage, who graduated at the top of her class from Marquette University’s Masters in the Dispute Resolution program, will act as a neutral facilitator for your mediation. For questions about mediation services, you can reach us by phone at (920)888-GAGE.
